Treasure Chest Thursday - 1917 Postmarked Envelope, C. B. Sharp to Ida Slesser

This treasure is an envelope without its contents.^[1] Nevertheless, it tells us the residences of the sender and recipient on 17 September 1917. The recipient, Mrs. Ida Slesser was in Carrsville, Kentucky and the sender, C. B. Sharp, attorney-at-law, was in Forsyth, Missouri.

Wedding Wednesday - Albert H. Slesser and Ida Washer, 1899

Albert H. Slesser, of Carrsville, Kentucky, and Ida Washer, of Livingston County, Kentucky, were married on 7 February 1899^[1]. This was the second marriage for both bride and groom. The ceremony was officiated by B. A. Brandon, in Carrsville. The marriage bond reports the ages of Ida and Albert were 38 and 48, respectively. Thompson and Robertson Property Sale to Ruby Hefley, Memphis, Shelby Co., TN, 1961

In this warranty deed^[1], Aimee W. Thompson and Hallie D. Robertson, grantors, convey the property at 1980 Young Ave., Shelby County, Memphis, Tennessee, to Ruby Hefley, grantee, on 23 June 1961. Images of the deed and commentary follow:

In this Affidavit of Heirship^[1], Mrs. Essie Gwartney makes a sworn and notarized statement, dated 16 June 1961, that she knew the decedent Ida B. Slesser for 81 years and Ida's only children are Aimee W. Thompson and "Hattie" D. Robertson.  An image of the affidavit and commentary follow:

Tombstone Tuesday - Ida B. Slesser (1861-1935)

Ida B. Slesser died on 5 January 1935^[1] and was laid to rest the following day at Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.^[2] A gravestone with a brief inscription marks her burial location. Commentary follows the photo image:

A death certificate^[1] reported the passing of Ida B. Slesser in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee on 5 January 1935. Information on the certificate was supplied by Mrs. J. L. Ida Slesser & Family in Memphis City Directories, 1922-1935

In a previous post, evidence was presented that an Ida Slesser purchased land in Shelby County, Tennessee in 1921. Memphis city directories (in Shelby County, Tennessee), also give us a chronology of an Ida Slesser residing at 1980 Young Ave. from 1922 through 1934. Extracted directory entries for her and other family members help to show that the Ida of Memphis, TN and the Ida of Carrsville, KY are the same person:

On 25 May 1921, Ida B. Slesser was grantee in a warranty deed for property in Shelby County, Tennessee.^[1] The grantors were S. H. Williams and wife. The best available image of the deed follows:

In 1920, the Albert Slesser household was residing in Carrsville, Livingston County, Kentucky, as they had in 1900 and 1910. Ten years later, the Sleiser household of the 1900 census^[1], was enumerated in 1910 as the Albert H. Slesser household still living in the town of Carrsville, Livingston County, Kentucky^[2]. The census reports that Albert had been married to Ida B. Slesser for about 11 years. Ida is reported to have given birth to 3 children, 2 of which were still living on the census day.
