Marriage of William C. Sharp and Delilia N. Neal, 1848

This tombstone is for William C. Sharp and Delilia N. Neal,1 my great-grandparents from my mother's side of the family. Inscriptions cover three sides of the monument; the photograph shows the side with details of their marriage, another face shows details for William, and a third gives details for Delilia. This monument is located in the Old Good Hope Cemetery, Livingston County, Kentucky, about 1/4 mile southwest of the former family homestead.
The inscription reads:

"WILLIAM C.
SHARP
MARRIED
DELILIA N. NEAL
JULY 19, 1848"
----

Commentary:

This monument has a square platform with the name Sharp inscribed on it. The obelisk once stood on this base. When it was mounted, it was a prominent monument in the cemetery. Nearby there is a grave marker for their daughter Agnes Sharp. One other nearby grave marker has toppled face down. It may also have been for a member of the Sharp family.
Only on this face of the monument is Delila's given name spelled "Delilia." On the other face of the monument, her name is spelled "Delila." Perhaps, "Delilia" was an inscription error.
