Wedding Wednesday - C.B. Sharpe and Bertie Gregory, 1895

C. B. Sharpe and Bertie Gregory, both of Forsyth, Taney County, Missouri, were married on 2 May 1895.[1] The ceremony was officiated by J. M. Haworth, Elder of the Christian Church, in Forsyth. The scanned image of the marriage license and certification on the left can be enlarged by double-clicking it.

Commentary:

The marriage license was obtained on 2 May 1895 and signed by the county recorder and deputy county recorder. At the bottom of the record is a statement certifying that the marriage was officiated in Forsyth on the same day by J. M. Haworth, an Elder of the Christian Church.
This finding is consistent with the 1910 U.S. census information for Charles B. and Bertie Sharp, which implied they were married about 1896.[2] However, it is in conflict with the 1900 U.S. census information for them, which claimed they were married about 1880.[3]
The source image displayed above was supplied by the Taney County Recorder. This marriage record has also been archived at the Missouri State Archives[4] and FamilySearch has made it available online.[5] A marriage record book was also maintained by the county in which marriage returns were recorded for each issued license. This marriage record book can be found online at Ancestry.[6]
