Sympathy Saturday - Passing of Albert H. Slesser, 1922, Carrsville, Livingston Co., KY

A death certificate[1] reported the passing of Albert H. Slesser in Carrsville, Livingston County, Kentucky on 3 February 1922. Information on the certificate was supplied by Ida B. Slesser, his wife, and A. A. Casper, the attending physician. An image of the certificate and commentary follow:

Commentary:

About two years earlier, the U.S. census for 1920[2], showed Albert Slesser, his wife Ida, and daughter Hallie living together in Carrsville. In her role as wife, Ida supplied the death certificate's personal information about Albert:
  • Birth date: 1 August 1849
  • Occupation: Farmer and General work
  • Birthplace: Germany
  • Father's name: C. A. Slesser
  • Father's birthplace: Germany
  • Mother's name: Louise Boettcher
  • Mother's birthplace: Germany
Ida would have had first hand knowledge about his occupation, so that would be primary information but rest would be secondary. At the time of Albert's death, Ida states that her address was Carrsville, Kentucky.
The attending physician, A. A. Casper, M.D., had diagnosed Albert's illness as "chronic interstitial nephritis" (kidney inflammation) about two weeks before his death. Dr. Casper estimated that Albert had suffered from this condition for about one year.
